I love this article about the old neighborhood of McCarty and Meridian Streets. The photo of Passo's Drugs and Shapiro's Kosher Foods in 1976 relates to the neighborhood and history researched by IUPUI anthropology Professor Susan B. Hyatt. Her story called "The Neighborhood of Saturdayswas featured in a New York Times article as well as her IUPUI site. My photo shows the corner prior to the explosion and fire at Passo's Drugs. It has changed how I shoot exterior photos of the deli. I used to wait for cars to pass by, thinking a "clean shot" was better than the clutter of cars. Both of these photos made me realize the importance to date the shot with cars, newspapers boxes and buildings, before and after Lucas Oil was built.
